DESIGNS

Concert Events

So much of my life as a designer is intimately connected to music. I trained on the cello as a boy and the connection to music has stayed with me throughout my life. Light is arguably the design form that is closest to music. Most importantly: light, like music, is time based. But there are more connections: both light and music have color, tonality, a sense of sharpness and smoothness. Each can have harmony or dissonance. I have always believed that there is a strong relationship between the idea of a color palette and the idea of a musical key. Colors can have a 'chordal relationship' with each other.

So, there have always been these strange projects, not quite theater, not quite opera, but using theatrical and operatic tools to communicate emotions and ideas through music and light.
